We know a lot of plant murderers - or at least we get a lot in the shop asking which plants are impossible to kill. If you've struggled to keep your houseplants alive in the past, or if you're new to houseplants and want to set yourself up for success, don't worry, we're here to help, not judge.
Unfortunately there aren't any "impossible to kill" plants, no matter how many requests we receive, but there are lots of resilient varieties that are willing to work with you while you figure out what they need.

Sansevieria (Snake Plant)
One of the most well-known (and most requested) plants for the horticulturally challenged, snake plants tolerate low light as well as infrequent watering. Also known as mother-in-law's tongue, have thick fleshy foliage that adds height and looks incredibly modern paired with a sleek planter. If you already have the classic zeylanica variety, or are just looking for something different, we love both the cylindrica and boncel varieties which have a spikier look.

Zamioculcas (ZZ Plant)
The ZZ Plant is a crowd favourite and our idea of a must-have in any home. Much like the beloved Snake Plant, the lesser-known ZZ Plant tolerates low light and requires minimal water. We love this plant's rows of quintessential leaves and deep green hue. We're currently lusting after the hard-to-find Zenzi and Raven varieties, but there's no beating the classic for a beginner plant parent!

Pothos / Heart-Leaf Philodendron
Often confused for the other, we love the trailing Pothos as much as we love the trailing Heart-leaf Philodendron. Both plant species can tolerate a range of light-levels, except direct sunlight, and make it easy to identify when they're in need of water courtesy of their drooping leaves. We love their lush tropical look and think everyone needs a trailing plant in their collection, plus there are lots of different varieties available, from solid green leaves to variegated to neon yellow-green.
Peperomia Obtusifolia
There are lots of fun varieties of Peperomia that we love, but the Obtusifolia is our top recommendation for beginners. Like most of the plants on this list, Peperomia are tolerant if you forget to water them. They like bright indirect light and have waxy circular leaves. Once you get comfortable with this plant you'll feel confident to move on to another variety, may we recommend the Watermelon Peperomia?
Draceana Marginata
I'm obsessed with the twisted limbs of mature Draceana Marginata, also known as the Dragon Tree, and their frond-ish leaves that help this plant resemble a palm. Draceana are tolerant of a range of indirect levels of light, drought tolerant, and are relatively fast growing, reaching up to 6' tall indoors, which makes them a rewarding houseplant to care for.

Peace Lily
You may have grown up with one of these in the house, but for good reason. While the Peace Lily may remind you of your mom or grandma, we love it for it's big lush leaves and ability to tolerate low light. Nicknamed the cast iron plant, if you have a track-record of killing plants give this plant a try.

Haworthia
Also called the Zebra Cactus, Haworthia need very little water and can thrive in lower ight than most cacti and succulents. However, if you find yourself with a bright, sunny window where leafier plants may struggle, Haworthia will thrive. Like other succulents, Haworthia are adorable cute and spiky but more resiliant, just don't over-water them.

Jade
If you love succulents but have struggled with them getting leggy, try a Jade plant. They are known to have long lives, often being handed down, and are thought to bring good luck so they're often given as housewarming gifts. Jade plants are a great fit if you're looking for a low maintenance plant for a hot, sunny window and can refrain from over-watering.
If you've killed a few plants in your day, try caring for one of these low maintenance options and let us know how it goes. Or it you know a plant murdered, why not send them this link and let it do all the talking?
